Canon Powershot SD1100 IS
May 7th, 2009 | Published in Canon, Digital Cameras

Canon Powershot SD1100 IS is a ultra compact camera. It is very easy to use and has multiple shooting modes. Images are sharp. It has an LCD viewfinder and Optical view finder, the optical view finder is very small but is missing in other such cameras. So, it is a welcome addition here.
Features
- 8 Megapixels
- Face detection
- 3x Optical zoom
- Image stabilization
- Motion Detection Technology
- Intelligent scene selector
- 2.5 inches LCD screen
Camera Build
It is a complete Aluminium body, except for port and batter doors, which are plastic. Because of the aluminium body, it feels solid, sturdy and well balanced. The buttons are all flat. Some people have complained about Lens error and the only way out of it is to send it to Canon for repair. It is bad luck if you are out of warranty. The lens error could be because of the lens getting hit during usage or if it is switched on accidentally when in its pouch. To avoid the second situation, you should make it a habit of switching to the view mode instead of shoot mode before switching it off. Even if accidentally switched on, the lens won’t come out.
There is no safety latch for battery and memory card door. So, need to take extra care during shooting that you don’t accidentally open it.
Quality of Photos
The photos are sharp and the colors are vivid. In auto mode, there is great balance in highlights and shadows. Macro mode gives stunning results. Optical Image Stabilization is satisfactory in low light and telephoto shoots. Shutter lag is acceptable in no-flash mode. Noise is visible at hight ISO’s. Flash recharge is not that fast, therefore continuous shoot mode is not perfect when using flash. Other than these minor problems, the overall quality of photos, for such a small form camera and such low price, is very good.
It is a sure buy for such a low price.
